Hi there! I’m Danielle, thanks so much for dropping by!
This space is where I’ll be sharing my journey and experiences that involves living an alternative lifestyle, one that incorporates mindful consumption and reducing my impact on the environment. There will be nifty info on stuff that’s good for the environment, your health and your pocket! Everything I share is from my personal experience, I am far from perfect and I do not have all the answers, but I will share what I know and hopefully create a community that will support and help each other grow 🙌
A little about me
I am an Aussie currently living in London for the sole purpose of travelling, as many of us are. I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and embrace every challenge that faces me. I love getting lost outdoors whether it’s going for a hike in the mountains, swim at the beach or camping in the wilderness. I like keeping on my toes, I’m rarely ever bored.
I also absolutely love food! There’s nothing like eating until your heart is content. Although I’m more mindful about what I put in my belly nowadays. I don’t diet or anything like that…instead I try to strike a balance so that my eating habits are maintained. Incase you didn’t already know you don’t have to sacrifice the sweet or savory treats you crave, because there are alternatives that hit the spot without the added guilt! Even if you do go for the good stuff, as long as you’re eating in moderation, it’s nice to treat yourself because your soul will be happy!
As I am getting older I feel like I am becoming more aware of what is happening around me. I guess you can say I used to be pretty oblivious, about my health, the environment and just most things in general. Now I am asking more questions, researching and I am starting to reflect more on my previous habits. Which has led me to focus on intentional living, self-care, positivity and sustainability 💚✌
How Nifty Alternatives came about
I stumbled upon the idea of Nifty Alternatives as a result of the expat life and my sensitive skin. Living in London is not cheap and I had to get creative about how to save money. I am always trying to stretch my money to save for my travels. I buy with purpose now, only what I need. I’ll try to make products myself if I can or I’ll repurpose things I already have at home.
The other contributing factor was my sensitive skin. I have eczema and dermatitis so I am always on the search for natural, toxin-free products that will nourish my skin and not aggravate it. I’ve had my fair share of rashes and break outs and I want to do my best to avoid them. I’ve also realised now that the environment and my diet can also have an affect on my skin. So I have reconsidered a lot of things in my home.
These two things naturally lead me to products that would also benefit the environment. So as you can see, my frugal living sort of all tied in together with this lifestyle change. It just made sense to adopt new habits to move towards living minimally, low-waste and healthier life.
I hope to shed some light on living consciously, to care for yourself, your skin, your health and the environment. I’d like to inspire people to think twice about how their choices affect their overall health and also in the background how the environment can be affected.
The small changes to our everyday habits can make all the difference to the environment. I want to emphasise that anyone and everyone can live intentionally, these changes are not as daunting as you think! As Anne-Marie Bonneau says “We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly”.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them below. I would love to hear from you, let’s get connected to inspire and motivate each other!
All the best,
